I have a first-class degree from Cambridge University, have a PCEC in Executive Coaching from Henley Business School (accredited by the International Coach Federation, the European Mentoring and Coaching Council and the Association for Coaching) am a member of the ICF (International Coaching Federation) and have BPS (British Psychological Society) accreditation.
I have spent my 30-year career in policy, strategy and leadership roles in the public and private sector – so I understand the complexities of large organisations, the pressures my clients are under and the challenges they face.
I also understand that whilst a certain working environment can suit people for a long period of time, it might not suit them forever.
On a personal note, I have chosen to work in different industries at different times of my life.
I started my working life as a clinical psychologist; then researched and produced Emmy and BAFTA-award winning TV documentaries. I worked in a start-up; at the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Justice; I’ve run a government inquiry and worked in COBRA during national emergencies.
These roles have different titles but, ultimately, like many jobs, they were all about people. Leading and motivating large teams; working out what “consumers” wanted or needed, whether a TV audience, the “users” of our public services or the public facing a pandemic.
During my career I led in a coaching style, coached many colleagues and witnessed the changes and benefits it brought. But I became frustrated by a job where I wasn’t seeing change. So I joined Henley Business School to re-train formally as an executive coach.
As a coach I see change in my clients in just one hour: I see my clients make profound and sustainable changes that have a huge, positive impact on their lives.
I know that my clients have the potential to thrive. They just need support to do this - and this is what I provide.
I do so using a variety of tools and techniques. I draw on my academic experience to ensure that my techniques are evidence-based and my neuroscience background to ensure that they are supported by neuropsychology. I listen so my clients can think.
My coaching style is goal-orientated: I keep my clients focussed on the outcomes and goals they want to achieve.
But before you embark on any journey deciding your destination is essential. Coaching is no different. To ensure you get to where you want, we will spend time defining an overall outcome for all the coaching sessions before we begin.
Sometimes exploring emotions forms a very important part of this. By understanding emotions and the role they play in our thoughts, personal narratives, behaviours and actions can we transcend them and explore alternative ways of thinking, being and behaving which will serve us better.
As a coach, I facilitate remarkable transformations in my clients, helping them implement small changes that lead to significant improvements. While some work environments may temporarily suit individuals, they can become unsustainable over time. My goal is to guide clients through these transitions with confidence and clarity. It is possible to find a job that fulfils you, that you thrive in - and one that gives you what you need. Contact me today to find out more.
